KNIT TO YOUR KNEES

If you've visited my blog before you'll know I like to show how fashion can be for everyone, no matter your age, size, or shape. And more importantly I like to think I show how to make your wardrobe work that little bit harder and ensure each piece is versatile enough to deal with our fast paced lives.

Sunglasses  ASOS  £12.99

So welcome please the jumper dress; the perfect piece to take you through autumn in to winter, dress it up, dress it down, you'll surprise even yourself with this one. Because believe me there is more than one way to wear it, but still look fabulous at all times and of course stay super cosy always. My jumper dress (above) is from last year and I picked it up from TkMaxx for a bit of a bargain I think. But just for you I've linked some alternatives below. Because a grey knit really is the best thing since sliced bread. You can wear it with colours, throw some patterns at it or keep it simple and smart with black accessories.

Oversized Sweater Dress  Zara  £39.99
Knitted Wool-Blend Dress  H&M  £34.99
Ribbed Grunge Funnel Neck Jumper Dress  Topshop  £39.00
Knitted Wool-Blend Dress  H&M  £59.99
Greuy Cable Knit Asymmetric Jumper Dress  River Island  £45.00

So style Tip No.1 for the jumper dress; you don't have to wear it as a dress. Because I know not everyone loves getting their legs out, especially when the weather is less than ideal. I fell in love with this knit from Next (below) and would love to have been brave enough to wear it on its own. I decided to go for the next best thing though and wear it layered with a mini skirt. This trick means you still have your legs out but don't have to worry about showing off a little too much. I also had this layered with a vest so this jumper became more of an outerwear piece for me.

90's Metal Round Sunglasses in Gold  ASOS  £12.00
Gold Tone Twist Earrings  Next  £8.00
Red Statement Spliced Sweater  Next  £30.00
Cherry True Bucket Bag  Topshop  out of stock  similar here
Faux Leather Skirt  Zara  old  similar here
Black Suede Western Ankle Boots  New Look  £34.99

If you like the look with the skirt but aren't so keen on the mini then try a midi length skirt. This look could be dressed up with heels or worn with trainers for a casual look. My rule when playing around with hemlines though is to stick to just 2 lengths. Therefore with a longline knit and midi skirt, my advice would be to got for a jacket/coat the same length as the jumper.

Turtleneck Dress  &Other Stories  £69.00
High Neck Oversized Jumper Dress  Vero Moda @ ASOS  £45.00
Relaxed Jumper Dress in Stripe  Daisy Street @ ASOS  £27.99
Colour Block Jumper Dress  PrettyLittleThing @ ASOS  £25.00
Contrast Trim Midi Jumper Dress  Noisy May @ New Look  £26.00
Knitted Polo-Neck Dress  H&M  £34.99

Of course any of these jumper dresses could also be worn with trousers or jeans. I love playing with textures and styling a long line jumper with leather trousers (pleather on my budget), or for an easy everyday look just throw over some jeans. I love the bright colours available o the high street at the moment, perfect for cheering up a grey wintery day. Red *hint hint* is the colour of the season so that's where my heart lies at the moment.

Cable Knit Sweater  Zara  £49.99
Knitted Dress with Slouchy V Neck and Tipping  ASOS  £32.00
Long Sleeve Knit Dress  Zara  £19.99
Turtleneck Side Slit Pocket Cable Knit Sweater Dress  Romwe  £20.30

A cream knit will prove just as versatile as a grey knit, it just means you have to be a little bit careful around those sticky fingers. Personally it's not really my daughter I have to worry about its more me and my inability not to spill/drop things. I'm really keen on the knit above though so might just have to brave it this time. I will style it with ripped jeans and boots come winter. For now while we're still just about clinging on to blue skies the skirt underneath is definitely my go to.

Jumper Dress with Ruffle Detail  Vero Moda @ ASOS  £35.00
Cable Knit Dress  Zara  £39.99
Roll Neck Sweater with Textured Pockets  Zara  £49.99
Long Boucle Knit Sweater  Stradivarius  £29.99

Hopefully I've shown how a jumper dress really can be for everyone. For this trend bigger really is better & more is always more. So when it comes to knitwear this season take it oversized and down to your knees. Layer accordingly and surprise yourself at just how many ways one jumper can be worn.

THAT 70'S THING

Ok hands up if you've been there, done that with the corduroy trend before? I know it shows your age but with age comes wisdom. And in my case a 'vintage' skirt that's bang on trend again. I think my cord skirt is probably about 8 years old, that makes it vintage worthy right? I have though of course been shopping the trend all over again and these pink cords from Zara are my absolute favourite at the moment.

Puff Sleeved Blouse  Zara (old)  similar here
Corduroy Wide-Leg Trousers  Zara  £25.99
Faux Leather Biker Jacket  Zara  £49.99
Black Boots  Zara (old)  similar here

I've styled them here with my baker boot hat and leather accessories for an off duty look. I can't wait for a chance to dress them up though with patterned shirts and checks. I took a size S in them and have found them super comfortable to wear.

Corduroy Wide-Leg Trousers  Zara  £25.99

To bring my corduroy skirt up to date I've been styling it recently with embroidered knitwear. This jumper is also an old favourite from last year but embroidery is not going anywhere for this season and there are some fabulous pieces available on the high street at the moment.

Cord A-Line Skirt  Matalan  £12.00
Burgundy Corduroy A-Line Skirt  Miss Selfridge  £28.00
Corduroy Skirt with Buttons  Stradivarius  £17.99

Emilia Red Corduroy Button Down Midi Dress  Urban Outfitters  £56.00

If you're a whole lot braver than me and can do white/cream cord then please put this Topshop jacket on your wish list. I don't trust myself or my daughter in fact to keep it clean but would love to seen it over an all black outfit or worn with light wash denim.

Ribbed Wide Leg Corduroy Pants  SheIn  £14.45
Button Corduroy Jacket  Topshop  £49.99  instore only
MOTO Cord Oversized Borg Jacket  Topshop  £68.00
Corduroy Dungarees with Pockets  Zara  £49.99
BDG Corduroy Pinafore Dress  Urban Outfitters  £46.00

You don't have to stick to the trend as you've seen and worn it before though, with a new season of corduroy comes a fresh approach and all new ways of wearing the fabric. I really love the cord boots (below), and would love to see them styled with ripped jeans, a simple tee and oversized cardigan for an everyday look.

BDG Skater Pink Corduroy Jeans  Urban Outfitters  £60.00
High Waist Corduroy Shorts  SheIn  £13.69
Pink Corduroy Block Heel Pointed Ankle Boots  River Island  £45.00

Suits have never been so popular and you can tick a cord co-ord off your list with this gorgeous two piece from Mango. Wear with heeled boots and a crisp white shirt for power suit vibes or wear the pieces seperately on your days off.

Oversize Corduroy Blazer  Mango  £89.99
Pleated Cord Trousers  Mango  £59.99

Corduroy Jacket  Stradivarius  £25.99
Corduroy Sneakers without Laces  Bershka  £25.99
MOTO Cord Pinafore Dress  Topshop  £39.00

Stay softer with pink corduroy and mix and match with grey tones and burgundys through Autumn. Or go smarter with darker shades of blue, black and navy. In my opinion the darker shades are certainly easier to smarten up and so may prove to be be versatile in the long run.

Pocket Corduroy Dungarees  Mango  £49.99
Corduroy Pinafore Dress  Mango  £29.99
Ankle-Length Corduroy Trousers  H&M  £24.99
Corduroy Elastic Bakerboy Cap  SheIn  £6.08

I have to admit I'm just a little bit pleased with myself that I didn't ever loose my skirt to the charity shop. It headed that way a few times believe me, but was always pulled back. So you see indecisiveness does sometimes pay off. If you have any old corduroy items in the back of the cupboard you're thinking about pulling out again please do let me know. You can leave a comment on my instagram post or direct message me. I'd love to know as well who has seen this trend before. But I suppose that would be telling and a lady never tells her age.

GREEN WITH ENVY

Well here's a post I never thought I'd write; sharing all the love on my new green dress! You I see; I do not like green, I never have. I don't particularly know why I just find it slightly unattractive and have never really found it to suit me. I know I'm doing a great job at selling this right now. My point here though is even with all the advice I give out on here; my top picks, what's hot, what to wear with what etc etc. I don't always follow my own advice, I'm always telling people to step out their comfort zones and try something new. Yet there I was with an old idea in my head that green didn't suit me and never bothering to give it another go. Until that is, I found me the perfect green dress, a slight compromise if you will as it was the embroidery that first caught my eye. But green it is and I love it.

Like I said it was the embroidery that first caught my eye and no wonder as it is just so pretty and the colours are perfect for Autumn. I also love the dotted fabric of the dress making it easy to dress down as well as still leaving the option of dressing it up. I'll be styling it this weekend with my new boots (see shop page), and my ever faithful black aviator jacket. For now I'm still powering on without the tights but it will work just as well with and could even be worn over jeans.

Embroidered Dotted Mesh Dress  Zara  £25.99

If you fancy yourself some emerald loveliness in your life then have a look at some alternatives I've found on the high street, all with a bit of something going on to make them stand out from the crowd.

Viscose Dress  H&M  £49.99

A maxi dress for winter is exactly what the doctor ordered. Brave it with bare legs, add tights or go all 'fashun' and over wear trousers. I love this one from H&M with the floral pattern and added ruffles to help flatter all figures.

Checked Dress with Floral Embroidery  Zara  £29.99
Floral Wrap Dress  Mango  £35.99
Ruffled Detail Dress  Mango  £35.99
Mini Paisley Dress  &Other Stories  £79.00
Millie Floral Shirt Dress  Boohoo  £22.00
Chiffon Frill Sleeve Mini Dress  Missguided @ ASOS  £28.00

A chiffon material is a perfect place to start if you want to dress the green up. Add black heels and some statement earrings for Saturday night glam.

Spotted Ruffle Tea Dress  Topshop  £42.00

Just because you've gone all green in the dress department doesn't mean you can't mix things up a little and add some other colours in. I love anything red at the moment and equally love these boots, perfect for bringing out the detail on the embroidery for a dressed up casual look.
Damaged Skinny Jeans  Zara  £25.99
Checked and Floral Dress  Zara  £29.99
Flat Patent Finish Leather Ankle Boots  Zara  £79.99

So don't be shy, go green this Autumn/Winter just like these street style beauties.....
