EMBROIDERY SS17

If you don't love embroidery, I'm not sure we can be friends. It's one of my absolute favourite trends so I'm glad it's sticking around for Spring/Summer '17. Embroidery was all over the catwalks in 2016 with Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Valentino all showcasing it. And it's now found its way to the high street so everybody can grab a little bit of the action.

Oversized embroidered Shirt  Zara  £29.99
MOTO Floral Embroidered Mom Jeans  Topshop  £59.00
Shirt with Flared Sleeves  H&M  £19.99

The Zara shirt (above) is my new purchase and I can't wait to style it up. I think I'm going to style it with Mom jeans and my red boots for a dressed up daytime look. For an evening look for drinks out I would go with my leather trousers and patent boots. In the summer I can roll the sleeves up and wear it with a denim skirt - very versatile for under £30.00, wouldn't you agree!? Be warned though it comes up every big. I went with the XS and its still an oversized fit on me (I am an average size 10).

Embroidered Patch Messenger Bag  Stradivarius  £15.99
Embroidered Plumetis Blouse  Zara  £29.99
Mid-Rise Embroidered Skinny Zara  £29.99
Embroidered Tulle Dress  Mango  £49.99

This dress is so versatile and can be dressed up or down for day or night. Layer it over a black slip dress with heels for night. Or for a relaxed daytime look stick it over a black roll neck, skinny jeans, trainers and chuck on a biker jacket.

MOTO Rose Embroidered Mom Jeans  Topshop  £59.00
Floral Embroidered Shacket  Topshop  £55.00
Floral Embroidered Shirt  Zara  £25.99
Embroidered Borg Jacket  Topshop  £89.00
Shirt Dress with Embroidery  Zara  £29.99
Madame Embroidery Ankle Boots  Topshop  £89.00
Embroidered Hoodie  Topshop  £38.00
MOTO Rose Embroidered Skirt  Topshop  £36.00
Embroidered Bucket Bag  Miss Selfridge  £39.00
Mini Skater Dress with Floral Embroidery  ASOS Premuim  £75.00
Embroidered Lingerie Set  Topshop  £34.00
Embroidered Flower Sweater  Zara  £29.99
Embroidered Leather Look Biker Jacket  Vila @ ASOS  £65.00
Black Floral Embroidered Duster Jacket  River Island  £60.00
Black Floral Embroidered Biker Jacket  New Look  £59.99
Embroidered Moto Jacket  Forever21  £37.00
Floral Embroidered Sweatshirt  Whistles  £95.00
Embroidered Tulle T-Shirt  Zara  £19.99
Black Embroidered Long Sleeve Jumper  New Look  £34.99
Ocean Floral Embroidered Crossbody Bag  Topshop  £35.00
Black L'Amour Badge Embroidered Cardigan  New Look £49.99

As you can see I went slightly crazy on my pick of the high street but I really was spoilt for choice. If you'd like to dip in to the trend but aren't ready for all over Gucci Granny-Chic then my tip would be a jumper/sweater. Wear with jeans for a casual look or pair with a leather mini for a more dressy look. If you really want to step outside the box, mix and match your prints and fabrics. I love to style embroidery with gingham and have picked a look below with the must have skirt of the season.

Deconstructed Midi Skirt in Gingham  ASOS  £32.00
Leather Biker Jacket with Floral Embroidery and Stud Detail  ASOS Premium  £220.00
Long Sleeve Pie Crust Frill Neck Top  Topshop  £19.00
Ace Western Ankle Boots  Topshop  £69.00

If you're still not sure how to style it up here's some more style inspo....

THE NEW BLUE STRIPE - SS17

The blue striped shirt is a style staple all year through, but Spring is always where is takes centre stage. Oversized or fitted SS17 has fresh updates for everyone including embroidery, ruffles and frills. If the original is still your favourite though fear not.

                                               Elise              Fendi              Monse

The catwalks saw the traditional shirt being deconstructed and given a modern twist with differing stripes, open backs, off-the shoulder and ties. Its all about taking what you already know and turning it on its head. And the high street doesn't disappoint....

Frilly Shirt  Zara  £29.99
Ruffled Cotton Shirt  Mango  £35.99
Ruffle Printed Blouse  Mango  £35.99
Wrap Blouse  Mango  £29.99
Frill Sleeve Button Down Shirt  Vero Moda @ ASOS  £28.00
Tie Front Dobby Shirt  Warehouse @ ASOS  £42.00
Striped Off-The-Shoulder Shirt  Stradivarius  £19.99
Fluted Sleeve Stripe Blouse  Vero Moda @ ASOS  £28.00

Another huge trend that's going nowhere for Spring is embroidery and the humble striped shirt showcases this perfectly.

Embroidered Stripe Shirt  Warehouse @ ASOS  £39.00
Poplin Shirt  Zara  £29.99
Wide Cotton Shirt  H&M  £17.99
Embroidered Poplin Shirt  Zara  £29.99
Oversized Printed Shirt  Zara  £25.99

The most versatile answer to this trend is of course the original; the oversized, button down with simple stripes. Whether its from your wardrobe or his it will quickly become an easy day to day staple you can't live without. Wear it tucked in to high waisted boyfriend jeans or loose with skinny jeans. Or if you want to really see what it can do for you, step outside the box, mix up fabrics, patterns and layer it up.

Cotton Shirt  H&M  £14.99
MOTO Stripe Oversized Shirt  Topshop  £36.00
Cotton Shirt  H&M  £12.99
Mensy Oversized Striped Shirt  Topshop  £34.00
Cotton Shirt  H&M  £14.99
Wide Cotton Shirt  H&M  £17.99

Here's another little bit of style inspo and check out fashion favourite Olivia Palermo rocking the Zara embroidered poplin shirt (available above)....

FISHNETS DO FASHION 2017

It seems that fishnets within fashion have always had an allure to them and a connotation of being something sexual, not for the faint hearted you might think. But this my friend is 2017 and you can wear them, all day, everyday.

Before we get into the style inspo lets just go on a little history journey....

1900's is where it all started. Some believe the allure of fishnets goes back to one of Aesop's fables (stay with me here). 'The Peasants Daughter' tells the story of said peasants daughter being promised marriage by the King if she solves his riddle; 'Come to me not clothed, not naked'. She does so by wrapping herself in a fisherman's net and nothing else.

Fast forward to the 1920's and we saw flapper girls wearing fishnets to show their leg off yet leave much to be desired underneath. In the 1950's it was the pin up girls wearing them to emphasize their curves. The 1960's is where the fishnet got its attitude with the goths and punks wearing them with rips and holes. The point here being to subvert from the mainstream and put two fingers up to how ladies were meant to dress at the time. In the eighties Madonna made them cool again with fishnets not just on her legs but worn as gloves, tops and skirts.

This year sees a resurgence of eighties style with fishnet tights just the tip of the iceberg. To make fishnets modern we want to silence the sexual whisperings they have, or do we?! I personally think as modern women we like to walk the line sometimes. But more importantly we like to control exactly where that line is drawn. We decide if we're being sexy today, we make the rules. I think with the right amount of confidence and balance in our outfits this is completely achievable, no matter your age or size.

Superfine Fish Net Tights  Marks and Spencer  £6.00
Gipsy Large Scale Fishnet Tights  ASOS  £6.00
Georgina Oversized Fishnet Ankle Socks  Boohoo  £3.00
Maddison Small Scale Fishnet Tights  Boohoo £5.00
Micro Fishnet Tights  Topshop  £6.50

If you're still not sure then how about these style tips-

*Wear under ripped jeans
*Go masculine with your colours and fit
*Wear with chunky boots
*Wear socks with loafers to add interest to a basic outfit
